DAILY CLASSROOM CHECKLIST
TYPES OF EVALUATIONS DONE BY STUDENTS
Did you ever wonder what a student's daily routine is like in my social studies class?
Here's a checklist for the class:
PLUS/DELTA EVALUATION
From time to time, students are asked to give positive written comments (plus) about the week's lessons and constructive comments (delta) where improvements might be needed. Any concerns about any aspect of the class can appear on the plus/delta evaluation. The teacher reads all the plus/deltas, responding to new and creative viewpoints in a timely manner. There is always room for change!
THUMBS
After each test students are asked to give the test the "thumbs" assessment: thumbs up mean the test was easy, thumbs sideways mean the test was satisfactory, and thumbs down mean the test was a "killer." The assessment is quick but very indicative of student performance on the test. In addition, students can look around the room to see how classmates perceive the level of difficulty for the test. The teacher gives a quick appraisal of the "thumbs" verdict.
CLASS MEETINGS
From time to time, class meetings are conducted to discuss class and school-wide concerns. These sessions help to "clear the air" and help students feel empowered. Their contributions are taken seriously and forwarded to the appropriate offices (guidance or administration) or utilized within the classroom to improve the classroom environment.
